Product Review: Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer

My favourite type of makeup ever is waterproof. Im always on the lookout for a new waterproof or water resistant product that really works. Its easy to find eyeliners and mascaras that are waterproof, but when it comes to the skin, it can get a little more tricky. So when Tarte came out with a line of waterproof products I knew I had to purchase something.

My first, and so far, only, purchase that is waterproof from Tarte has been the Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Waterproof Concealer. I had extremely high hopes for this product as I love the Tarte items I had purchased in the past. I think I set my expectations too high this time, which left me feeling extremely let down.

To start, my natural skin tone doesn't match any of the shades. While there are 5 shades to chose from, I fall somewhere in between the fair and light, and upon reading other reviews, this is a common problem with a lot of women. Second, the product is in a stick form, which I usually like for throwing in my purse, but the coverage is SO concentrated that too much is applied and it is extremely hard to blend over large areas like under the eyes. Because it is so thick it also creases in the under eye area, and no amount of primer can prevent this. While these flaws would usually make me not want to repurchase the product again, I would have overlooked them if the product were waterproof or at least long lasting. News flash! Its not. I purchased it to use on the broken capillaries around my nose and not even an hour later I have to reapply. What a waste of money. I really wish I kept my receipt because I would have returned this in a heartbeat to Sephora.

The good things about this product is that its perfect for covering small blemishes as the coverage is SO concentrated that a little goes a long way. But again, its very difficult to blend over larger surfaces. The packaging is also cute and small and perfect for tossing in your bag.

This product has received a lot of good press from reviewers online so this could be just me. If you want to try this product, it may indeed work for you as it has other women but I'm just not impressed.
