Summer Beauty Must Haves

Going to the beach can be stressful enough trying to fit your body into teeny tiny bikinis, while still keeping confident and sexy, without having to deal with makeup. Let's be honest, it looks silly wearing a full face of makeup to the beach, but us girls still want to be looking on fleek as possible.

As a mom, I find it hard enough to do my face on an average Tuesday, let alone packing up the beach bag, the car, the pup, and the kid, then to do it on a day out to the beach. So, to make it easier on everyone, Ive compiled my list of must have summer beauty items. These products keep you looking, fresh, and gorgeous, without looking like you've applied a stitch of makeup!

Summer Must Haves

Starting from the top left and working clockwise:

1. Tarte Tarteguard: This amazing little wonder is the most important product of all for those hot summer days. Sunscreen. SPF maxes out at 30, so this sunscreen built for the face packs a perfect punch to fight off those harmful rays, keeping skin young, moisturized, and protected.

2. Bare Minerals Stroke of Light: A must have for any season, this stroke of genius brightens your under eyes to keep you looking awake and refreshed each and everyday. Tip: You can also use it to highlight your nose, chin, and forehead.

3. Too Faced Chocolate Soleil Bronzer: This is the best natural looking bronzer you will find. You get tons of product, that smells like CHOCOLATE, made with real cocoa. Use it to bronze the high points of your face for a natural sun kissed glow, or put it to work as a contour powder in your cheek bones, and your temples. An added bonus, the packaging is super cute!

4. Loreal Voluminous Waterproof Mascara: This is my Go To mascara even in the winter. It is the blackest black, stays all day, and the waterproof formula really holds a curl. Not to mention adding a touch of mascara is a quick easy way to awaken the whole face.

5. Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream: This BB cream is packed with SPF so you can skip the Tarte Gaurd on the days you use this. Smooth on with your fingers when you are in a rush, or use a brush when you have time to spare. No matter how you apply, it will leave your skin flawless, in one easy step.

6. Maybelline Dream Touch Blush: Another product that can be applied with only the fingers; this blush is super natural and makes your skin glow from within. A cream blush is perfect for those summer days when you want to look dewy and fresh.

*Most of these items are available at Sephora, or your local Drugstore!

Beauty for Beginners on a Budget

BEGINNERS ON A BUDGET

Ever find yourself stumped on where to start? Have you walked into Sephora or Mac and been completely overwhelmed by not only the choices, but the prices? The truth is you don't need to spend a fortune on all sorts of beauty products from high end retailers to achieve a gorgeous polished look. Most makeup artists don't limit themselves to pricey products, because their cheaper cousins are just as good sometimes!

If you're just starting out with makeup, these are my favourite products and shades for you, and they are all incredibly affordable. The best part? The shades are universal and will compliment any skin tone!

Lets start with your canvas. The skin. My go to foundation is Revlon Colorstay. It lasts all day and has a different formula for each skin type. I always reach for the combination/oily bottle. For concealer it doesn't get any better than Revlon's Age Rewind eraser. It says its for under the eyes but I use it everywhere. The eraser tip makes it super easy for beginners to place where they want and blend it out. It is also amazing for a quick highlighting stick! Finish your face with a subtle matte bronzer in all the areas you want to contour. Your temples cheekbones for instance. Nyx Matte Bronzer in Light is the perfect dupe for Benefit's Hoola Bronzer.

Now its time to add some colour! Nyx Natural Palette is a dupe for Urban Decay's Naked Basics palette. I actually prefer this cheaper version though! Its important for every woman to have a matte shadow palette. If you're just starting out with shadows this is an amazing start. You can bring in the shimmer shadows later but this palette has everything you need to get started and play around. Moving on, the perfect blush is Nyx bush in Natural. Its the perfect shade of pink that is exactly as advertised, natural. It looks incredible on any woman's cheeks! Apply your blush to the apples of your    cheeks. That fleshy area that protrudes when you smile!

Finish off the look with your brows and mascara. If you're feeling frisky, mix in some liquid eyeliner! I personally can't go outside without liquid liner! With practice its not as hard as it seems. But I digress. Never forget to sculpt your brows and fill them in with a pencil. I really like the Cover Girl Brow pencils. Just find your shade and then check out my Eyebrow post on how to fill them in! Finish with a black mascara on your top and bottom lashes to really open up and brighten your look. My favourite mascara EVER is Loreal Voluminous 24 Hour. I love it more than any high end label!

Oops! I almost forgot! You cant finish a look without some lip! I know lipsticks and glosses can be a little intimidating when starting out, so try Loreal Colour Riche Balm. That's exactly what it is, a balm. Just like your chapstick! Accept it has a gorgeous natural tint. The shade Tender Mauve is the perfect natural lip colour. It just enhances what you've already got! So pucker up baby!

Effortless Cool: The Graphic Sweatshirt

Graphic Sweatshirts

One of my favourite trends right now, is without a doubt, the graphic sweatshirt. Its such an easy way to look put together when you have zero energy to do so! They look fantastic with a pair of leggings, or even some skinny jeans. The possabilities are endless! The key is all in the layering. They can look terrific with just a white tank under to add some dynamic, or throw on a denim jacket for some extra pow! The best part is they are available in every price point. Here are two that Ive been rockin' lately. One was $32 and one was $160, can you spot the difference?

The top sweatshirt with the jewel collar is from Old Navy and the blue skull sweatshirt is from Zoe Karssen. My other favourite brand for graphic anything is Wildfox, its a slightly higher price point but the garments are such amazing quality that it is truely worth it, and if you search around a bit you will find amazing steals! Also give ASOS a go. They have Wildfox among other brands so there is something there for everyone!
